Inside out.
Jewish Netherlands.

As far back as the seventeenth century, Sephardi Jews were already playing a vital role in the Dutch economy, international trade, and the creation of the Dutch colonial empire. Most cities welcomed Jews, providing an unusual degree of tolerance and freedom. Later that century, they were joined by Ashkenazi Jews from Germany that created communities around the country. By the time Nazi Germany occupied the Netherlands in 1940, the Jewish population had grown to 140,000 people. However over 100,000 were soon deported to the death camps. Today there are around 40,000 Jews in the Netherlands partly affiliated to Orthodox Ashkenazi and Sephardi and reform congregations. The rich Jewish history is still very palpable in the Netherlands, and prominent Jewish historical figures like Baruch Spinoza, Aletta Jacobs, and Anne Frank are considered an integral part of Dutch culture.
